High School Elective · Grades 9–12
You're not in a class — you're at an agency. Today: the tool that changes everything, and how to stay in charge of it.
Week 03 · AI, Responsibly · Quarter 1The verse opens the hour — test everything, and keep what is good. Then show your studio work: your Dribbble collection — 9–12 saves — the one save you're proudest of and why it earned its spot, and your North Star word so far. Today: the tool, and how you stay the boss of it. And this afternoon — the board gets assembled.
The pipeline. Mic → meeting notes (Granola) → AI (Claude) → a finished lesson. This class you're sitting in went through that exact pipeline.
Three professional words. Skill — a repeatable recipe: saved instructions so quality never depends on memory. API — software talking to software. Workflow — A → B → C, every time.
The promise. You'll build your own workflows before this year is done — that's what "applied AI" means.
Colors + fonts + spacing + photography — chosen on purpose and written down, so every piece a brand makes feels like it came from the same place.
The mood board is where it starts — your Dribbble collection is the ingredients; the board is the dish. 9–12 coordinated pieces that all point at one North Star word.
You assemble yours today, in studio. And once it exists, it becomes the brief you hand to AI — your design language, written down, in your voice.
First prompts are training wheels. Anyone can ride those. What comes out is average by definition — that's AI slop.
Prompting is a language. The professional move: tell the AI your goal, then ask it to build the prompt WITH you — have it interview you until you're on the same page.
What makes it yours. Your taste + your design language. That's why design came before AI in this course — on purpose.
It will sound like it has feelings. It doesn't. No matter how real it sounds, it is not a person and not your friend.
It gets things wrong while sounding confident. Push it. Critique it. Verify it. You control it — never the reverse.
If an AI interaction ever feels weird, wrong, or too personal — tell your parents or your facilitator. Never hold it in.
One sentence each — it seeds tonight's homework. Push past "AI is cool": what will you DO differently?
Practice Log + personal AI rules photographed into the portfolio before anyone leaves the hour.
Pull your collection apart — colors, type, textures, feeling. Build the spread: 9–12 pieces, one page, one North Star word you can defend.
Entries polished, your three rules in your own words — and new sketchbook problems. Bring your best ones next week.
Board + log photographed into the portfolio · 2 studio hours recorded.
AI and robotics will change what jobs look like — and create new ones. You won't wait on anybody to hand you one. You're learning to think, to create, to sell, and to do — so wherever the world goes, you adapt and you build.
Born in a stable. Washed His disciples' feet. Constantly finding need and meeting it. Business exists to serve — and in this agency, we lead the same way: servant leadership, teammates first.
Your pod is a surprise — you won't know your team until the reveal. Bring names anyway.
From today — we open next class with them.
Bring your best problems. Next week: pods form, names get chosen, problems get pitched.
